Areas and objects that we almost never clean and hold too much dirt in our home

Cleanliness is essential for a healthy life. We must ensure proper cleanliness in every space we frequent: our workplaces, those areas where we seek recreation or leisure, and of course, our homes.

With this in mind, it’s important to consider the areas and objects in our homes where dirt accumulates and where we sometimes don’t clean them as often as recommended.

  • The kitchen sponge is one of the worst things we have in our homes. Its mixture of dirt and moisture makes it a breeding ground for bacteria, which is why microbiologists recommend changing it weekly.
  • The refrigerator is likely one of the household appliances we pay the least attention to. Scientists tell us that every three or four months we should empty it completely and thoroughly clean its shelves and drawers with warm, soapy water to leave it germ-free and clean.
  • Cutting boards are breeding grounds for germs. To prevent this, it’s a good idea to disinfect them at least once a week.
  • The sink is 100,000 times more contaminated than the bathroom, making it the place where the most germs accumulate. It’s where food waste is left, food scraps are washed, and, in turn, it’s also where kitchen utensils are cleaned. For this reason, it’s recommended to clean it once or twice a week with a disinfectant.
  • The toothbrush holder should be one of the cleanest places we keep, as it’s where we store our personal hygiene utensils. However, even after brushing, even if you try to rinse the toothbrush, there’s always residue left behind that accumulates dirt. It’s advisable to clean the holder two or three times a week, either in the dishwasher or manually using the same product you wash dishes.
  • Door handles: We enter and exit different rooms several times a day, and door handles are the first part we touch. You should clean the door handles in your home once a week.

Having this information at hand reminds us of the importance of paying closer attention to these critical areas and objects and, if necessary, changing our habits to ensure the health of our family.
